2022 Lifetime Achievement Award
Stephen McAdams
Today I have the greatest honor and pleasure to introduce Dr. Stephen McAdams for SMPC Achievement Award. Kown as “Professor Timbre”, Dr. McAdams is one of the leading figure in music perception and cognition for over 4 decades. He is currently a Canada Research Chair in music perception and cognition and the director of the ACTOR (Analysis, Creation, and Teaching of ORchestration) project. He has published over 128 peer-reviewed articles, 1 monograph, 6 edited volumes, 4 special issues of journals, 40 book chapters, and 108 conference proceeding articles. His peer-reviewed papers have appeared in 42 different journals spanning multiple disciplines.
I had the privilege of studying with Dr. McAdams as a Ph.D. student. He was a prominent figure even back then, but also was warm and approachable, always ready to offer support to students. I am forever indebted to Dr. McAdams for his guidance and encouragement, and I know that I am not the only one who feels this way. Dr. McAdams has been (and always will be) an inspiration for me and many others.
Without further ado, please welcome Dr. Stephen McAdams.
